PowerShell Advanced Introduction
PowerShell Advanced is the expert step of PowerShell. It combines small commands you already know into bigger jobs.
Small commands combine into bigger jobs
A pipeline filters a list down to the items you want. The advanced step is chaining such steps into one job.
$numbers = 1..5
$even = $numbers | Where-Object { $_ % 2 -eq 0 }
$even -join ", "A function wraps a job for reuse
A function gives a job a name. You call the name instead of retyping the steps.
function Get-Double {
param([int]$n)
$n * 2
}
Get-Double -n 21Each lesson builds on the last
This course starts with remote commands. Later groups build on that base, one idea at a time.
$targets = @("alpha", "beta")
foreach ($t in $targets) {
"Ready: $t"
}Example
function Get-Double {
param([int]$n)
$n * 2
}
$results = foreach ($n in 1..3) {
Get-Double -n $n
}
$results -join ", "Key points
- Advanced work: combining small commands into bigger jobs.
- Remote work: running commands on other computers from your own.
- Parallel work: running several jobs at the same time.
- Finding mistakes: tracking down why a script went wrong.
- Sharing work: packaging commands so other people can use them.
- Safe work: controlling who can run what.
In this example, a function doubles one number. A loop then calls it for the numbers 1 through 3. The results are joined into one line.
Note
Some advanced tools need Windows or a remote computer, so this course teaches those honestly with local demos and real failure messages.
