Questions to Ask the Interviewer
Questions to ask the interviewer are the candidate questions saved for the close of a round. They show interest in the role and gather facts that help a later decision.
Sort questions by theme
One question per theme covers the role well. Themes stop the list from drifting into one topic only.
groups = [("team", "What does the team work on next?"), ("work", "How is success measured in this role?"), ("growth", "What does growth look like here?")]
for group, question in groups:
print(group, "->", question)Match each question to its moment
Problem questions belong inside the round. Role questions belong at the close, when the interviewer invites them.
timing = [("during the round", "ask about the problem and the team context"), ("at the close", "ask about the role and growth")]
for when, what in timing:
print(when, "->", what)Pick questions for the moment
Filtering a list by theme picks the right question fast. The code keeps only the team question here.
questions = [("team", "Who will I work with daily?"), ("work", "What does a normal week look like?"), ("growth", "How do people grow here?")]
for group, question in questions:
if group == "team":
print(question)Example
shortlist = ["What does the team work on next?", "How is success measured in this role?", "What does growth look like here?"]
for i, question in enumerate(shortlist, 1):
print(i, question)
print("ask at the close of the round")Key points
- Closing questions: candidate questions asked when the interviewer invites them.
- Use a team question to learn what the team works on and how it works together.
- Use a work question to learn what success looks like in the role.
- Use a growth question to learn how people in the role develop over time.
The shortlist holds three questions, one per theme, ready to ask at the close. Preparing them ahead stops the blank pause at the end of the round. Each question also shows real interest in the role.
Note
prepare three questions ahead, since inventing them on the spot is hard under pressure.
