Pawn Breaks That Open Lines
A pawn break is a pawn move that challenges an enemy pawn and opens lines. It turns a closed position into an open one.
A pawn break opens a file for a queen
The pawn on d4 captures the pawn on e5 and opens the d-file. The king moves to f8, and the queen captures the queen on d8, defended by the bishop on f6.
