Etiquette, Resigning, Draw Offers
Etiquette means good manners at the board. Resigning and draw offers are part of playing a game well.
The start of a game

a b c d e f g hKey points
- Shake hands before and after a game. A handshake shows respect for the other player.
- Resigning means giving up the game. A side resigns when the position is lost and no good plan remains.
- A draw offer means asking the other side to agree to a draw. A draw offer is made after making a move, before pressing the clock.
- The other side may accept or refuse a draw offer. A refused offer does not change the game.
- Stay quiet and still while the other side thinks. Distraction is poor manners at the board.
